Ellu ppl. ^^ Okay I have 3 parakeets for 5 years now and i recently found out one of them was "pregant" and had 2 eggs but the other female bird broke them. So now I seperated them, but I still need a nest. I did think about buying one but i dont know. But I did put a box with newspaper sheds and some seeds in there. Do you think thats enough? What else could I do to make her comfortable? Im excited but scared at the same time.

  1. All you need to do is put some cotton, string, grass, things you can either buy from any store and leave it in the cage.

They also have little nests you can buy, but the best ones I found are open nests. Instincts should take over and they will built it themselves...however in my case my two birds are stupid and can't even figure out HOW to build a nest, lol

Heck, she lays her eggs and when I check there all broken...

  2. There are wooden nest boxes available at most pet stores. Choose the smaller one for parakeets. Enough room they can move around in it. Use wood shavings inside the box. Also avail at the pet store. I have bred birds for 30 some yrs. From finches to Macaws. DO NOT use cotton or string. This will tangle around their feet and possibly around their necks. Outside materials like grass etc have the outside polution and possibly pesticides. This will also harm the birds. Use clean wood shavings from a pet store.

  3. That seems fine, you could put cotton balls that you spread out by the box and see if they will use it.

Well goodluck and enjoy those baby parakeets.
