The Issue
-There has been an income gap for 30 years. After World War 2 there was equality in wages/salaries in races but not genders
- gap caused increase of numbers of people below the poverty line. For every dollar a white person would make a black would get 62 cents.

But since the quality of public schools is closely linked to local property taxes, which in turn are closely linked to local real estate prices, you cannot send your child to a public school of even average quality if you buy in a school district whose house prices are well below average.â€Â-Unknown
-“the lowest fifth in 1970 was 1,992 as the highest fifth was 33,281. And in 2006 the lowest fifth was 11,352 and the highest fifth was 168,170†– Census Bureau
-47 Million people have no health insurance. They aren’t in poverty just normal people
-People think that poverty is when a family cannot give themselves basic needs. But the US census Bureau says that a family of 4 was in poverty if there income was below 20,444
Since the 1970s
- There is an increasing gap in salaries/wages in America that began after the 1970s
- The poverty rate is higher than it in the 1970s partically for children. Our poverty line is higher then most other industrialized countries.

- The income gap also includes hispanics
Effects
- The increasing income gap leads to poor health effects, in sufficient housing, and it causes a gap for educational education.
- Hispanics have on average lower incomes and education levels then people born in the US.
- Asians have the highest median income in America but as the wealthy people increase, the population of the poor people of poverty increase also.
- Divorce causes a change of income for women. They often get custody with the child. And their kids live in poor conditions because child support payments often go uncollected.

- There seems to be a crime increase in areas that kids with an low-income households live in
- Between 2000 and 2006 the number of children in poverty increased by 1.2 million; about 900,000 was among the extreme poverty –Children’s Fund
- “Black and Latino children are more likely to be more poor then white children.â€Â

- Out of a 94,750 houses for a white household that made 100,000 or over would represent 20.2% of the percent distribution in 2006. As to a Hispanic household that made 100,000 or over would represent a 10.5% of 12,973 houses.
