How do you make a picture smaller than 1 mb?

I need to upload a picture but the sites limit is 1 mb so how do I make it smaller

1. Drop the D.P.I. if its on the web, most monitors won't display more than 96 d.pi., (Macs 72) so anything higher is not required.

2. Save as a JPEG

3. Crop the image to show only that which is needed.

The easiest way is to open the Microsoft Paint program. This is the paint program that comes with Windows (i.e mspaint). Drag the picture into Paint. Select Image->Stretch/Skew. Enter 50% for horizontal and 50% for vertical. Voila!!! Your picture has been reduced to 1/4 its orginal size.

Important. Save the picture under a different file name. You don't want your original hi-res photo to be overwritten by a lower-res picture.
