Hey Devrie S - NO bashing!  If age is a factor for playing any pokemon game then I am the OLDEST one you will find.  I am 41 and I love to play the pokemon games.  As a matter of fact, I just started Leaf Green yesterday.

To answer the question:

Since I only just started this one - to make it happy.  You keep it with you.  You don't have to use it but occasionally.  Daisy can evaluate your pokemon for happiness - Daisy is your rival's sister back in Pallet town.

Just letting it win battles helps. You can get it really happy by giving it a haircut I think.
