  1. This site lists everything you need and what to do to make your own rope halter.

  2. Young foals should not be led just by their halters;their necks are still fragile, and you could cause serious injury.  Instead, a lead rope should be placed behind a foal's rump, over her back, and then around her front chest, in a figure 8 pattern. You can control her better and more safely this way.

I got this straight from a professional book, so this is the professional way to do it!

    I HOPE THIS HELPS!!! ; )

  3. I wouldn't be using a rope halter on a 2 month old colt.

I wouldn't be using a rope halter until he's being actively trained.

Right now I'd only be using a leather halter or a web one since he's just learning to have the halter on and to lead minimally.

  4. I used these instructions around 6 yrs ago.  Still have the halters I made at that time!  I also made a foal halter at that time (it's so cute & tiny!) and love it!   The instructions are for a full size horse, but I just kinda "eyed" it for the foal at first, then tried it on.    I use only rope halters as the others usually end up breaking if a horse pulls back hard enough and have never had one of these break!  I seen someone mention not to use these on foals - just use common sense when using!  These really aren't that hard to make - once you figure out the first one the rest are much easier!   Have fun and good luck with your baby!
