How do you make a simple cornbread??

I haven't ever made cornbread so i need something fast and simple!!!!

  1. CORNBREAD

    1 cup flour

    1/4 cup sugar

    4 teaspoons baking powder

    3/4 teaspoon salt

    1 cup cornmeal

    2 eggs

    1 cup milk

    1/4 cup shortening

    1/4 cup bacon bits

    Sift flour with sugar, baking powder, & salt. Stir in cornmeal. Add eggs, milk, and shortening. Beat until smooth. Bake at 425 F for 20-25 minutes. (in greased pan).

    Serving Size: 12


  2. GOLDEN CORN BREAD  

    1 cup Aunt Jemima Enriched Yellow Corn Meal

    1 cup all purpose flour

    2-4 tablespoons sugar

    4 teaspoons baking powder

    1/2 teaspoon salt

    1 cup milk

    1 egg

    1/4 cup vegetable oil

    Preheat oven to 425°F.

    In a large bowl, combine corn meal, flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.

    Add milk, egg and oil. Beat until fairly smooth, about 1 minute.

    Bake in a buttered or sprayed 8 inch square baking pan 20 to 25 minutes or until a wooden toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

    Variations:

    Muffins or Corn Sticks: Pour corn bread batter into a buttered or a paper-lined muffin tins or hot well buttered corn pone pans.

    Mexican Corn Bread: Stir 1 cup whole kernel corn, 2 tablespoons chopped green chiles and 1/2 teaspoon chili powder into batter. Bake in a buttered or sprayed 8 inch square pan in a preheated 425F oven 22-25 minutes or until wooden toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Remove from oven, top with 1/2 cup shredded cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese.




  3. I have made it from scratch, but nothing is better than a box of Jiffy cornbread mix.  To make it more interesting, toss in a can of Mexicorn and a handful of shredded cheese.

  4. Grandmothers Buttermilk Cornbread

    This is very simple and very yummy:)

    INGREDIENTS

    1/4 pound butter

    2/3 cup white sugar

    2 eggs

    1 cup buttermilk

    1/2 teaspoon baking soda

    1 cup cornmeal

    1 cup all-purpose flour

    1/2 teaspoon salt

    DIRECTIONS

    Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease an 8 inch square pan.

    Melt butter in large skillet. Remove from heat and stir in sugar. Quickly add eggs and beat until well blended. Combine buttermilk with baking soda and stir into mixture in pan. Stir in cornmeal, flour, and salt until well blended and few lumps remain. Pour batter into the prepared pan.

    Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
