Now are you looking to make a sling shot or a wrist rocket? the difference is that one is pulled back and released and the other is slung in a circular motion and released.  Now in the story of David and Goliath David used a sling shot ( the circular motion one). Dennis the Menace used a wrist rocket ( the pull back and release one ).  The pull back and release type is really simple  first get you a couple of strips of inner tube about 15 inches long by 1/2 inch wide. A small piece of leather 1 inch by 2 inches. Then find you a Y shaped limb or cut a board into a V shape.  Then attach the the inner tube and leather to the forks of the limb or board and voi la. The Sling shot is mad y two long thongs ( not the kind on your behind but leather strings of leather ( long work boot type shoe laces work well as long as they are not spongy) . The leather pouch needs to be a little larger. About 3 1/2 long and  by 2 inches wide. Attach the 2 thongs to the leather piece and you are done. Now with this get away from anything that you do not care about hitting because it takes practice. you place one end between your thumb and forefinger. Then other between  your for finger and middle finger. Then swing it in a circular motion and when you thing the time is right release your thumb.  Good luck I hope this helps.

There are two devices that are called slingshots.  The original slingshot consisted of a string about 4 feet long with a leather pouch in the middle to hold the missile.  One end of teh string is either tied to your wrist or held by your fingers.  ?the other end is held by your index finger and thumb.  The device is swung around your head and the end of teh string  that is held by your index finger and thumb is released at teh proper moment to throw the missile at the target.  It takes a good bit of practice to get it right but David managed to bag a Giant with one.

The modern device that is called a slingshot is simply a Y shaped piece of wood or branches to which rubber bands (surgical tubing is best) are attached to the top two vertical ends.  The other ends of the bands are attached to a leather pouch in which the missile is placed.  The handle of the device is held by the left hand (for right handed people) and the pouch is grasped by the fingers of the right hand.  The pouch containing the missile is drawn back stretching the rubber bands and imparting potential energy to them.  The pouch is then released allowing the potential energy to become kinetic energy and propelling the missile toward the target.

The modern device is most often seen.  The ancient device is mmore difficult to use and, consequently, is seldom seen.  If you do not know how to make a modern slingshot, go to most sporting goods stores and look at one.  Most of these stores, including Wal-Mart, have them.  For better info on the ancient slingshot, you might find something by doing a Google search for "slingshot".
