  1. You would still need some kind of pump mechanism. the motor is only used to drive that pump.


  2. it really depends on your needs:

    to move the water a considerable height (think more than a few inches) it would be best to find and purchase a pump head. you might find a pump head on Cole-parmer. see the link for a good example of a small scale dc pump.

    If you are not elevating the water you could try something simple like a von Karmen pump. This would simply be a disk pressed onto the motor shaft - the rotating disk will create a fluid field where the water is drawn to the disk along its axis of rotation then forced away in a radial direction. This pumping action is due to viscosity, and will not be altogether efficient, but can draw water through a tube located at the axis of the rotating disk so long as you have little or no pressure drop to overcome.

    Oh - another possibility, take a look at a fish-tank filter pump. Its basically just a set of paddles on a motor with a tube on its axis. This can draw several inches of water with pretty decent flow.
