  1. Depending on size of chair and whether whole chair or just seat, you can use a lazy susan bearing which will take a lot of straight down weight and is cheap.

      If the chair is to lean back in, then the bearing has to stronger so a replacement swivel chair bearing has to be used.  These are also stiffer (don't spin as freely.)

      You build a chair with strong bottom framing and a leg unit below and bolt the swivel in place between them.

    the three shown in pictures are extremely standard and available from woodworkers supply places and some hardware stores.
