  1. You may need to adjust a setting in your camcorder to output your HD video as SD.

    This setting is somewhere in your camcorder's menu - usually under the Play or VCR mode.   There will be another setting right next to it which will correct your 16:9 HD video to fit in the 4:3 SD aspect ratio.  The choices will usually be: Crop, Squeeze, and Letterbox or Anamorphic.  Since you want to show your entire widescreen video in the small 4:3 area, you need to choose Letterbox or Anamorphic.

    If you want to be able to edit your video in HD in windows, you will need to purchase an better editing program such as Sony Vegas Pro or Avid's Pinnacle Studio (both under $100).  You can then render and export your HD video from the upgraded editing program to SD if necessary or keep it as HD for viewing on an HD TV.
