How do you make an animated GIF?

What programs are necessary and how is this done? I'm new to this stuff so a basic, low-tech answer would be ideal. Thanks.

Those are some things you can download to make an animated GIF. Dont listen to people who tell you to go to a site that does it for you, when you like upload a bunch of images and they put it together for you. It doesnt work.

Since you new to this stuff, I suggest using GIMP since it's free and easy to use. And it doesnt take up that much stuff on your computer.

Photoshop is like GIMP but much better, and its not free, but you can download a 30 day trial to try it out.

I dont know much about Paint Shop Pro. I dont think its free either but it doesnt hurt to try.

To make a GIF you have to make different layers, save it as .GIF, and then save it as a animation.
