How do you make asparagus?

I have always wanted to make asparagus for my now almost 14 month old daughter. I have bought it before, but never made it because I didn't know how to. My mom went to the store today and I told her to pick up some asparagus, so I am planning on making it for lunch.

My question is, how do you make asparagus?

  1. Ive always just steamed it.. You just wanna steam it until it goes limp when you pick it up. Keep an eye on it so it doesnt get soggy.

  2. The tiny tender asparagus is the best and steaming is the best way to prepare it. Wash it. Cut about an inch off the bottom of each stock. Find a pot that will hold the asparagus upright and then tie the asparagus into bundles with cooking string if needed to stay standing. Add enough water in the bottom of the pot for steaming at a boil. About 2-3 inches. Cover and boil for about 10 minutes.

  3. "Asparagus can be steamed, boiled, stir-fried, microwaved, roasted, or baked into quiches, casseroles, and other dishes. Fresh asparagus does not require much cooking time."

I prefer to steam my veggies, including asparagus. I use the steamer bags for the microwave for a couple of minutes with some salt, pepper, and a bit of olive oil.

  4. I either steam it of bbq it.  To steam snap off the last few inches of the stalk, it should break pretty easily, and place in a steaming basket over boiling water.  It should take approx. 10 minutes.  Another favorite is to bbq with a bit of garlic and olive oil.  Good luck.  Aaron is 7 months old and this has been a favorite the last week.

  5. I always grill it or put it in the oven with a little extra virgin olive oil  and seasoning until it gets softer..Ian is 11 months and loves it.
