I have seen such pictures on Facebook etc, and they look really cool! I know how to turn pictures black and white in Photoshop, but how do you keep the lips bright pink or eye color remaining? Thanks

  1. luckily i just answered this question so here is one way to do it for free with a free program called the gimp

these images are edited in programs like photoshop. i can provide you with a short and simple tutorial for doing it.

-get the gimp image editor from

**Warning** the program has a strange interface

-open the program and open the image

    -if the image is color

--create a new layer in the layers dialog

    --set layer mode to color

--fill the entire layer with black or white

--erase parts of the layer to make the original color background visible through the new layer

-if the image is gray scale

--create a new layer in the layers dialog

--set the layer mode to color or overlay

--paint the parts you want colored

when done save your image as .jpg or .png, best image quality

  2. assuming you start with a colored photo: (in photoshop)

-Duplicated the photo into another layer.

    - de-saturate that layer untill it is a black/white as you want it.

-erase the parts of that layer that you want to keep in color. --The colored photo will show through.

This'll be a lot easier than trying to colorize the individual parts, which would work as well.

  3. use the change to target brush and choose the color that you want to use. if you want to keep the original color of the photograph choose black and everything you paint will become black and white or if you want to change a certain piece of a photo to a different color take use the change to target brush with the color you want to change it to (this works on both black and white and color photos
