Question:

How do you make calls with magicjack?

Magicjack has great sound quality and I can receive calls and make calls with the softpad on the PC. However, I cannot make calls with the actual telephone unit keypad. Tech support doesn't know the answer (go figure). I have tried several brands of corded and cordless phones, including GE as recommended by magicjack.

Just wondering if anyone else out there can make calls with their actual phone unit with magicjack? It may be a universal issue, but if there's a solution, I'd like to find it. Would be pretty sweet to replace my ~$700/yr bill for local service with a $20/year magicjack bill.

  1. If the problem is "Dialing" only, I suspect it is a Codec issue with MagicJack device and/or service.  Try different phones just to verify it is in fact it's the MJ adapter and/or codec.  Some Codecs have problems processing phone DTMF tones. (which is also why they can't send FAX too)

Otherwise, I use InPhonex and CallCentric with my Linksys PAP2T-NA VoIP adapter.  I purchased the ATA from VoIP Depot here in Canada.  Then I configured it for use with InPhonex and CallCentric VoIP services.  InPhonex can sell you the adapter too.

Pay-as-you-go...  No contracts, no commitments, no hidden fees, no strings...

InPhonex rates are 2.5 cent/min, while CallCentric rates are 1.98 cent/min (USA/Canada/UK).  They have among the lowest world-wide VoIP rates.

    For even lower rates, I use my Linksys also with Les.net (1.5 cent/min) and VoIP.ms (1.25 cent/min).

The Linksys PAP2T-NA VoIP adapter works really great.  No PC required to use and just plug in regular telephone into it and make calls (once configured with your favorite VoIP service).  That is what I do...

  2. I have found that my cordless is doing much better than my corded phone....go figure....you just gotta fiddle around 'till you finally got it just right!

I have it since last may and love it!

but remember, if you are like the rest of most ppl who need every thing spoon-feed, then the MJ is not for you....but if you get turned on by getting something cheap, like me....well, then the MJ is for you!!!

I had seen it first last year on the Clark Howard show, so I got it right-a-way, because was ready to go on vacation to Europe. I've used it all over there, and anywhere you got high-speed Internet....now, all my friend s in Europe wanted one too, so I bought 12 MJ...activate them in the US, got an US area-code and mailed them abroad.....so now they can call me for free with on US area-code!!!!

Land Phones its really easy to use....like a VoIP service (Internet phone)

but you computer got to be on at all times for it to work!!

You gotta download their software....but its very easy and you don't need to do nothing else...! I have it since last year...! so far I love it...I take it on vacation to other countries so I can call back for free with an US area code! Make sure you use another user account and not the admin account...also if you have trouble...check your device manager....don't do your iPot stuff at the same time...!

all you get is the Magic Jack...the rest you learn on your on, or at the MJ forum!

You will be up and running within 5 minutes....you can ask here questions when you get it going!! There are alot of little things you have to know........for it to work just right!!

the most important thing with the MJ...it all depends on your ISP provider....! I use other VoIP on my computer, but the MJ was the easiest to install...

  3. Did you try magicfix at the MagicJack website?

    http://www.magicjack.com/1/customercare....

And if you have Vista click on the appropriate link for the Vista Upgrade

You can also find help at The Unofficial Magic Jack Forum

By the way mine works fine with a telephone plugged into the magic jack although sometimes the sound is a bit choppy.
