  1. Depends what sort of bait you're after and what tactics you are using. Firstly there's ground bait which is used to entice carp into your swim (area you're fishing). I use a mixture of bought groundbait, carp pellets, sweetcorn, crushed boilies, whole boilies and maggots.

I then use a whole boilie as a hook bait attached on a hair rig. The area around your hook bait needs to include free offerings of the same bait. Basically if the fish are enticed by free offerings of sweetcorn they are then going to find one soitary boilie very out of character and are clever enough to know to leave this alone.

I'm guessing the bait you are looking to make yourself is boilies. Depending on your ingredients depends on your success but they are relatively easy to make and then freeze for later use. There are also lots of attractors on the market that can be added to spice the flavour up in the hope of enticing more/bigger fish.

Lots of websites here will how you how to make a boilie and gives you tips on flavours, etc by just doing a "Google" search.

Ground bait is pretty much completely up to you as to what you want to throw in.

Another very effective hookbait for carp is bread fished with a float that gets the fish feeding on the surface.

  2. one of the best baits i have had luck with is just some bread rolled into a ball try it if you don't believe me
