  1. If you have the resources to do so, dehydrated beef, chicken or turkey cut into thin strips make a fantastic treat for dogs. For larger breeds, create larger chunks from the strips you cut. Depending on the cut of meat that you chose, you'll want to make sure that you remove as much fat as possible. If you've ever had a really stringy piece of jerky before you'll know why. They're much healthier than ANYTHING you can find on a pet-store shelf and less costly too, plus you can make a ton of it and freeze it!

  2. There are lots of good recipes that you can find online, here's a great site that has a wide variety of different recipes: http://www.thepoop.com/pooppantry/

I make this recipe more than any other one, since my dogs love them and they're really easy to make:

    Peanut Butter Dog Treats

    Ingredients

    2 cups whole wheat flour

    1 cup skim milk

    1 cup organic peanut butter

    1 tablespoon baking powder

    Directions

Note: to make wheat free use garbanzo flour instead of whole wheat.

    1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

    2. Mix all ingredients well to make a thick dough, knead a few times. Roll out onto a floured surface to about 1/4-1/2 inch thickness and use cookie cutters to make shapes.

    3. Place on lightly greased cookie sheet and bake at 350 degrees fahrenheit for 20 minutes. Let sit in oven to cool, this will make them crunchy, let cool out of oven makes them a little softer.

    4. I recommend storing them in the fridge during the hot months and then in a container in the cupboard during the cooler months. Lasts up to 3 weeks.
