How do you make fireworks?

Not the ones that are just flames on the ground, I mean fly up and explode in the sky?

It's not actually 'illegal' - as long as you have all the necessary local, state and federal permits and licenses for the chemicals and manufacturing of explosives...  :-)

Your best bet is to see if there is a fireworks club (http://www.nwpaa.com/clubs.shtml) in your area and learn from experienced people how to do it correctly and legally.
