  1. I've seen it done many ways.  You start with firm green tomatoes and slice them about 1/2 inch thick.  To bread your tomatoes, use three seperate bowls and put flour in one (you can add pepper to the flour if you like), whisk a couple of eggs and about 1/4 cup or so of milk in another bowl, and put your breading in another.  You can use breadcrumbs-cornmeal-crushed saltines or ritz crackers-a combination of these...  First dip the tom. in the flour, then egg mixture, then breading (pat your bredding into place).  Heat olive oil or butter or bacon grease in a skillet on med-high heat and put your breaded tom. in until golden brown on both sides(3-5 min per side?)  Let them drain for just a sec. on a paper towel and add your salt as soon as you take them out of the pan.  Serve them hot!  YUM!

  2. I've only made fried green tomatoes once or twice but last time I made them this is how I did it and they were sooooooo good.

This is what you will need

    1 egg and some buttermilk

    plain flour

And then mix up this bread crumb recipe. You won't need all of it though.

    3 cups panko bread crumbs

    1 tbsp parsley

    1/2 tsp poultry seasoning

    1/2 tsp white pepper

    1/2 tbsp white pepper

    1/2 tsp seasoned salt

    1 tsp garlic salt

    3/4 tsp thyme

Mix well. Keep left over in a ziplock baggie or another air tight container. (This also makes a good chicken-chicken fried steak)

Dip thick slices of green tomatoes in flour (both sides), then dip in the egg wash mix, then in the bread crumb mix. Fry in butter in a skillet.

  4. Fried Green Tomatoes

    Ingredients

    3 medium, firm green tomatoes

    1/2 cup all-purpose flour

    1/4 cup milk

    2 beaten eggs

2/3 cup fine dry bread crumbs or cornmeal

    1/4 cup olive oil

    1/2 teaspoon salt

    1/4 teaspoon pepper

    Method

1 Cut unpeeled tomatoes into 1/2 inch slices. Sprinkle slices with salt and pepper. Let tomato slices stand for 15 minutes. Meanwhile, place flour, milk, eggs, and bread crumbs in separate shallow dishes.

2 Heat 2 Tbsp of olive oil in a skillet on medium heat. Dip tomato slices in milk, then flour, then eggs, then bread crumbs. In the skillet, fry half of the coated tomato slices at a time, for 4-6 minutes on each side or until brown. As you cook the rest of the tomatoes, add olive oil as needed. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

    Hope this helps! =)
