  1. Metals are elements, which are variously reactive and require different methods to extract them from their ores.

Some very unreactive metals (eg. gold) are found in their pure form underground. iron needs to be reduced with carbon in a blast furnace, and aluminium ore needs to undergo electrolysis.

that's about all i know, hope it helps!

  2. The first metal that was "made", that is, extracted from metal ore, was copper. To extract it you put copper ore (copper carbonate) and charcoal in a furnace, which can be made of rocks, set light to it and blow air into it. The heat and the carbon in the charcoal removes the carbon and oxygen from the ore, leaving pure copper.

  3. You can refine the metal from a mined ore, or you can reduce a salt of the metal either by a chemical reaction or through the use of electricity. Metals themselves are, with very few exceptions, elements and can not be made (unless you have access to a nuclear accelerator). Metal alloys (eg. brass, bronze) are made by mixing two or more metals (such as copper and tin) to produce a metallic substance with different properties.
