Moonshine is a distilled product that takes a lot of TIME and PATIENCE to make. Trying to put it all together for the same day is stupid. It won't work.

You need a still.  They are not legal to own in the US.

Suppose you were to try, saying "d**n the law, I want moonshine."  Well, you'd need to ferment something.  Malt, corn, rice, anything with sugar, even sugar water.  Leave that for two weeks, and you'll get some alcohol. (OK, it's a little more complicated, look up homebrewing beer to see what you'd need to do.  You are essentially making an unhopped beer and changing malt to a mix of corn, rice, etc.).

Great, now you have something like 5-6% ABV unhopped nasty "beer."  You use a still to increase the ABV, by slowly boiling the mixture.  At about 173F the alcohol will vaporize.  A condenser tube will take the vapor and turn it back into a liquid.  In theory, the closer you are to the boiling point of ethanol, the higher alcohol content you will get.  There is a problem, here, though.  The first part you get from the distillation process (called the heads) is mostly methanol, which is a deadly poison.  The other problem is you would have some sort of heat source and vaporized ethanol, which is an explosive.  

Yeah, you should just go buy a bottle of cheap vodka.  Might find a 100 proof vodka, never know.
