Ok! So ive been looking into making some jewelry, and was wondering how do you make the designs that go into resin. I am not really sure exactly how to ask what I am looking for..but if you look at the link below..I am wondering how you make something like the panda, or what the panda is made out of..so you can put it into the resin.

Thanks to those who can help!

  1. I've made paperweights using resin and hardners which the same principle as the jewelry mold instruction.

  2. You can put anything in the resin that won't melt from the heat generated while the resin cures, and that is also "waterproof."

For anything that's not waterproof, you'll need to coat it before casting with a thin layer of permanent white glue (both sides) then let dry, or even a thin layer of the resin then let cure.... doing that will seal any inks from inkjet prints, for example, and will also keep white paper from becoming translucent when placed in the resin. Then use the sealed items as normal.

You can read more about using resins** on this page, if you're interested:

(...for sealing and for casting shallowly, click especially on the sub-categories called APPLYING and CASTING)

**2 kinds of resin can be used for shallow casting like this --a polyester or "casting" resin, or an epoxy resin (which is used for casting only when then casting will be fairly shallow)... there are various brands of each
