Question:

How do you make the windows vista start menu small?

I undock the start menu and put it on the right hand side of the screen.

In XP I could make it one column wide with just the windows logo on the start button.

Vista seems to insist on having two columns so the start menu can have the word start on it.

Is there a way to change this to be like XP?

  1. Hello ClaireB,

I work with the Windows Vista Outreach Group at Microsoft and I saw you wanted to get the Classic Start Menu and knew I could help.  Follow these steps and you will have your classic start menu again.

    1. Go to the Control Panel

    2. Click on the Appearance and Personalization

    3. Click customize your start menu

    4. Choose the Classic Start Menu

    5. Click Apply, and then ok.

That should give you the start menu you are looking for.  If this isn’t what you wanted let me know and I will do a little research to see if we can find exactly what you are looking for!

    Thanks

    Lindsey

  2. well there's 2 ways

    A) go to control panel and press Appearance and Personalization then choose on themes the classic menu that will put it back to looking like 98 though

B)Buy XP apart from the themes there exactly the same its only a extra 10,000 lines of scripted that with windows standard is pretty low
