How do you make this kind of chat?

I've seen a few websites with a chat like this:

I really like this chat. Does anybody know how to make this chat? Or at least what kind of chat it is? (I'm thinking it's Java.)

okay, i do not know if this will help or no but it seems to me that its browser chat that do not really have to be in java, it can be in any web language or combination of them. for making a chat like this u gonna need to know some basic graphics(Java) like applets and also know how to make basic server applications too. it not something u can do just that easy u have to do a lot of studying. the best think i can suggest is to search for server  and applet programing in java in Google and read anything u can and do not be afraid of trying and writing your own test programs.
