How do you make those books with the gaps in them(That Store Stuff)?

A while ago, my cousin's boyfriend made her a present which was a copy of Harry Potter, but inside of this was a large gap for her to hide her bits and pieces. I was just wondering if anybody knows how to make them?

Cut a piece of cardboard that is the size of the books page.  Next, cut the shape out of the middle of the cardboard.  This is your template.  Get a SHARP exactoknife and cut deep into the book.  Remove the insides of the pages as you cut them.  You'll need to move your template inside the book, as you continue.  Leave a few of the first and last pages of the book.  Use a glue stick and glue the pages together, leaving one place where the "book" can be opened.
