How do you make those browser gadget thingys?

you know like next to the address bar there's the like google and yahoo search bars? How do you make them?

It sounds to me like you're talking about browser toolbars.  The method for making them varies from browser to browser.  In Internet Explorer you have to compile code using Visual Studio, see the first link below  (you can also buy components to make this easier, see the second link).  In Firefox it's a bit easier, more like writing web pages - all you need is a text editor, see the third link below for more details.

If you really did mean gadgets, that's generally considered to be something different - see Google Desktop Gagdets or Opera Widgets in the final two links below.
