How do you make your shoes water proof?

My dad said that when he was in the U.S. Navy, they had this clear thing that they brush on their shoes to make it water proof. They use it when they walk on snow. He forgot what it's called. Do any of you know what it is? Thanks!

I can't think of a name brand off hand, but i know we have some, it comes in a spray can exactally like spray paint, i good place to check would be walmart possibly, or outdoor stores like sportsmans wearhouse, scheels, or d.ic.ks sporting goods! possibly menards as well! hope that helps.. and i believe the stuff we have has sorta orange on the packaging around it with like raindrops? haha just so you kinda know what to look for, but go to like sportsmans and just ask im sure they know!

Probably the same as lacquer, which is usually

put over nail polish to seal it..

Of coarse it would be of stronger consistency.

but probably similar product.
