  1. I manage my bankroll by playing with at least 25 the big bet...for example playing at 5/10 limit hold'em I sit with at least $250 if $250 represents more than 5% of my bankroll I will drop down to 2/4 limit until I build it back up to over 5% of my bank roll.

So if you are just starting at Hold'em play 1/2 with a minimum of $50 and have at least $1000 as back up.  It may take a while to build to $2000 but when you do move to 2/4 and build until you have enough to play in the larger games etc.  To manage your bankroll properly you must be patient.  I think never risking more than 5% of you bankroll at any table is a good idea.  If you don't have $1000 try a micro limit game online and keep track of your hourly winnings.  Keep accurate records of your time playing and how much you win or lose.  As you go up levels it will would be like punishment for playing bad when you have to go down a level...

    Best of luck.

  2. There is only one rule to abide by.

If you have 20 100 bb buyins then play that level. If you drop back down to 18, move down again until you get 20 BI.

  3. I never enter a game that has a entering fee of over 10% of my bankroll.
