Question:

How do you match blinds with window measurements?

I'm moving into a new apartment, and have the inside window measurements. For the living and bedroom, the measurements are 45 1/2" wide x 45 1/2" long. I'm guessing that you don't really need to worry about the length, but the width, I'm confused.

I'm looking online at Target, and they have various sizes...I see 34", 39", 48"...how close to 45 1/2" does it need to be? I'm guessing that it obviously cannot be greater than 45 1/2", but how low can I go? Any help would be appreciated...thanks.

  1. Your parents have it right!  Blinds can be either inside mount or outside mount.  Sometimes there isn't enough room for the header for an inside mount and you need to go outside.  If this is the case, try to measure as close to the width of the window including the frame.  Ex. edge of the casing to the edge of the casing which will cover the entire window and frame.  Oh, and it best to match the color of the frame....

  2. If they are vinyl blinds you can cut them with scissors and a hacksaw to fit the inside measurements but they are perfectly fine mounted outside the window opening.

  3.   Measure  your  windows  and  look  for  the  blind  closest  to  your  measurement and  put  extras  in  your  length.  and  I  guess

48"  is  what  you  are  looking  for  ,you  can  always  return  it  and  get  the  right  size..

  4. usually you measure the inside dimensions - but if there is room between your windows with molding - you can go 1" outside the window.

I've used 47" and it still worked - it all depends on whether you're willing to shade all the window or just the window - some places cut to size like Menards so check there too
