How do you measure and sample for the existence of siltation in a river?

What parameter are used to show (when taking water samples) that it actually exist . Im thinking turbidity located around the river bed.

  1. It all depends what you are sampling for.  I do a lot of ground and surface water testing and we test for different things at different times.

    If you are sampling turbidity, its an in situ test that uses light and penetration.  If you are seaching for nitrates you just take a sample.  If you are testing for VOC's you take a sample, lock it in a vacuum and test in the lab.
