  1. Measuring the size of your wheel is best done with millimeters.  They are sized by the diameter of the wheel.  However 700C wheels are not 700mm and there is more than one size of 26" wheel.  Most modern road bikes are 700C which is a wheel diameter of 622mm.  Mountain bikes are 26" and have a diameter of 559mm.  If your wheel does not fit these two categories you should check the link I put in below.  There is a table for the new ISO system which will help you find the traditional size for your wheel once you have measured the wheel's diameter.  It will also explain why stated wheel sizes may bear no resemblance to their actual size if you care.

  2. you can look on your tire for the tire size it is on the tire rim.

  3. Actually wheel size is normally known for the approximate size of the tire on the rim. Hence a 26" wheel include the tire in the dimension likewise for other sizes. The rim size is much smaller. There are many web sites explaining this here's one check the article about 2/3 the way down.

  4. The diameter of the wheel (not including the tyre)

Mountain Bikes are usually 26 inches, whereas road/racing bikes are usually 700mm...not really sure why they're in metric and most other sizes aren't TBH...Maybe it's because it equates to 27.559 inches...which doesn't exactly slip off the tongue does it :P
