  1. Get a bag of Kraft Caramel squares, melt them on the stove ( low) and them dip the apple in it. The recipe is on the bag.

  2. Caramel Apples

  3. unwrap the candies and put them in top of double boiler. Add to the whole package 1 cup evaporated milk or half and half. Also add to that 1/2 cup of light Karo.

Put water in the bottom of the double boiler and set over heat. put the top of the double boiler in.

this is to prevent scorching of your sauce. Heat and stir til it is all melted and you can dip your apples in it.

then you can roll the apples in chopped nuts if you want.

  4. Some people do things like this in a microwave, but I think it's way too easy to burn.

What you do is double boil it...melts by steam not directly on the heat.

To do this, fill a sauce pan about a third full, then place a glass or stainless steel mixing bowl over it as a lid. Start the water boiling and allow it to fully boil. Add the caramels to the glass bowl...if you assembled everything right, the pan is on the burner, and the bowl is hot from the steam of the water in the pan. If you need to add cream, evap milk, or whatever do it at the very end, so you don't get it too thin (you won't know that until the melting is almost done), and so you don't scald the milk. Be very careful that you don't add too much milk...add by the teaspoon full until your caramel is a good consistency.

I would think you won't add anything because you don't want the caramel to thin out, it won't stick to the apple. Thinning it out would be for something like caramel sauce for ice cream.

This setup is perfect for marshmellows too, or choc chips when you are making fudge, etc.

  5. 6 Granny Smith apples

    6 wooden sticks

1 (14 ounce) package individually wrapped caramels, unwrapped

    2 tablespoons water

    1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Insert wooden sticks 3/4 of the way into the stem end of each apple. Place apples on a cookie sheet covered with lightly greased aluminum foil.

Combine caramels and water in a saucepan over low heat. Cook, stirring often, until caramel melts and is smooth. Dip each apple into the caramel and gently run apples around insides of saucepan to scrape off some of the caramel. Scrape excess caramel from the apple bottoms using the side of the saucepan. Place on the aluminum foil and chill until ready to serve.
