  1. if you fry it just cook it longer than usual and they wont be slimy

  2. if you are boiling it, it is just slimy.tomato and bacon along with some onion cook it down until the okra is tender, tastes great.

this is how i make it. chop up about 1/4 of a onion 2or 3 slices of bacon and put that in a pan.let the bacon greasy cook out a bit and soften the onion.then add about 2to3 cups of chopped okra, one 14oz can of diced tomato's and a fill the tomato can with water and add that. then let all that simmer until the liquid  reduces add salt and pepper and eat up. no slime at all.

  3. Fry it a bit longer.

  4. all the above answers are good.  also if you are using a roux you can add it when you add  the onions to the roux then it won't be slimy.

  5. If your using it for gumbo, or to add to a similar-like dish, just use less. We made some gumbo the other day and I couldn't stomach the slimieness of it. By itself, i've heard you can either fry it up or bake it in the oven. Hope this helps.

  6. what works best for me is if i fry it a bit before adding it to a stew or something like that. Just a little oil in a non stick pan and fry it off at the end add a few drops of lemon juice-i dont know why but i think the acid in the lemon juice cuts the sliminess.

When cooking okra on its own in an indian style i add tomatoes and it doesnt get slimy at all.

My mom makes okra battered and deep fried on occassion-unhealthy i know but absolutely divine!

you can also make a slit in i lengthways and add a stuffing with some lemon juice inside to season the stuffing and bake it. never slimy that way.

    Good luck!!
