Expedition 2001 Automatic. Someone took the key switch off and so we can't ignite the vehicle. We are trying to figure a way to move it in the garage. So how do you move the vehicle with no keys without damaging the SUV?

  1. Use a floor jack under the rear axle. Once the drive wheels are off the ground you can move it. If you need to move it very much look for wheel dollies at your local parts store. Four of them will allow you to move it anywhere you want to.

  2. remove the drive shaft's

    goodluck

  3. get under the car after blocking the wheels so it wont roll find the trans theres a cable running to the side of the trans with whats going to look like a switch and a lever dis conect the cable and push the lever till it clicks twice then push away this will put the truck in nultruale then once u get it where u want it push the lever in to park agean and atach the cable

  4. you'd have to take off the drive shaft.  that car won't shift from Park without keys in it.

  5. Easiest way I know is to remove the drive shaft. Careful though, without the car running, you may not have brakes, and with the car in park you have no steering.

  6. on my car there is a button right by the shifter that allows you to move it into neutral when pushed

  7. When working on cars I use a floor jack under the rear differential and raise the car off the ground a few inches. You can then push the car anywhere you want it, even sideways. Another suggestion would be to find the interlock in the column behind the key switch and use a screwdriver to move it to the neutral position.

  8. Tow truck driver's go under the car and disconnect the shift linkage and manually shift the car into neutral from the tranny.

    BUT

    (1) you have to make sure the car do NOT roll while you are under it

    (2) when you "push" the car, the steering wheels will be locked so it will not go straight.

    Good luck...

P.S.  Mustanger (above) said to move it using the floor jack - BAD IDEA.  They are not stable enough.  But he also says to use a floor wheel dollies - GREAT IDEA. They are made JUST for that reason.  Just make sure that your driveway is flat and level or it will start roll and you will have NO control.
