  1. Usually fork lifts are used only by businesses and they either do or don't require licenses of their drivers.  If they do, they usually have simple tests and qualifying driving tests, if they don't they figure you will figure it out soon enough.  A lot of businesses would require as a minumum a valid drivers license and good depth perception.

  2. There is actually no such thing as a "forklift license" that OSHA recognizes.  You need to be trained on the operation of the forklift, and the specific hazards of your facility.  Your company can train and certify you on forklifts, as longs as it meets the requirements of OSHA 1910.178.  Any documentation of that training that includes the name of the participant, signature, name of trainer, and date will satisfy OSHA requirements.

There are a couple of affordable packages you can buy on the web that will provide your company with training materials.  Here is one of them:

Remember, that Federal law requires all forklift drivers to be over 18.

  3. depends on where you lived and what kind of fork lift you want to drive anything over 26000. pounds you need a class B license and if you are driving a hevy fork lift like that like a volvo l90E or a Case or somthing like that big you also need you hydrlic license in some states depending where you lived Airzona you dont need a hydrlic licence but in massachusetts you do need it you go down to the M.V.D and ask for a hydrlic license book and they look what are you talking about then you dont need one in your state your company will train you and you will get a certify thew the company any its a 4 hour hour class and then you watch movies and then you get on the mechane and drive with the instuctor threw volvo or case or some company

and you want to drive a yale pr a propane forklift then you ask for that job and they will train you and all ou need is a class D lincence and no hydrlic licence is needed

i am a class A CDl oppreator, hazmats, double and tripal trailer tanker motorcycle indorsmats and Volvo Certify wheel loaders operator l50E - l330E (VOlVO construction equimpment.com)

  4. I have not heard of a State Issued license.

You can get a certification card, that states you have passed a safety, operators class and are qualified to operate forklifts of a certain size.

OSHA does require you to have a certification card on you when operating a forklift at work.

Your employer should offer such a class if you are required to operate a forklift at work.

If you are just looking to get one. Contact most large rental companies that rent forklifts.

Such as Nations Rent, etc. They usually offer a certification course for their equipment.

  5. Check with forklift dealers in your area - there is not a true "license", but most of the bigger distributors have trainers who will give you training and issue a competency certificate.
