How do you obtain citizenship in Spain?

I was wanting to some travel and live in Spain for a while, do you have to obtain citizenship or what do you have to do to be able to stay a few years? Also what you need before you travel to another country

If you are from the EU you only need your national identification card or a passport.  If you are from the USA, you can enter Spain and stay legally for three months on what is generally called a Tourist visa...you show up and you get it.  If you ask at the Police Station you can be given a--one time only--three month extension.  If you leave Spain and return, you get another three months of Tourist visa.  If you intend to stay in Spain longer, you will have to apply for Residency...a long,legal process.  You must enter Spain with a special permit stating your intentions to apply for residency.  While applying for residency, you cannot leave the country.
