How do you open a file with the extensions .sam?

I came across a file with the .sam extension and it said to open the file in a word processor. I tried notepad and Microsoft Word 2007, and it opened, but when I tried to save it afterwards, an error message came up, saying that Word couldn't save the file. Just wondered if anyone could help out and could tell me what program to use with .sam extensions?

Word may have automatically converted the file from Lotus Ami Pro format when it opened it but it couldn't save it back as that format. Try using Save As and picking a Microsoft Word format for the file type
