  1. The key is to toss the ball up like you are tossing a tennis ball. the serve is on the same principle. Pratice, Practice, Practice. Make sure when you toss the ball it goes straight up and only to the point where your hand can make contact with your arm outstretched. Hoe that helps and good luck with your tryouts.

  2. When you stand, face forward. If you're right handed, put your left foot forward and right foot back. Throw it up and hit it hard with your palm, fist open. You might want to take a step forward to hit it harder.

********Whoever said you can do underhand serves in HS is wrong. They're too easy to bump and are considered wussy serves, lol. Overhand serves go straight across and fast, so they're hard to hit back.

  3. the toss is everything dont toss it to high it will mess you up a lot but also practice it it will come with time

  4. well u have to be able to have a good toss only about 2-3 ft then step forward only a lil..oh and make sure that you hit the bal with an open hand..that is al the advice i can give u and good luck im sure ull do great!!! if u made the team last year im sure ull make it this year!!!!

  5. Yeah good luck I also have tryouts tomorrow....for junior varsity,  90 percent of overhand serving is all the toss!  Be sure to give yourself a good toss...about two feet above your head.  When you swing if your right handed your left hand goes up as sort of a tracker then hit the ball with the palm of your hand right in the middle of the ball!!!!!!!!  Remember to start with your right leg out in front, make the toss closest to your right foot so you dont have to swing across your body.

    Hope that helps.....good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. First, you can make the team with an underhand serve. You just need to have pinpoint accuracy with it and a killer backspin on it!

For the overhead serve, begin by tossing the ball straight up with your left hand (assuming you serve right-handed) and raise your right hand over your head as if you were going to hit it. Watch the ball come down. Just keep practicing that -- you want to train your eye to spot the ball at your palm.

Next, toss the ball up and make light contact with your serving hand. Open palm, hitting the ball dead center with a slapping motion. Don't worry about distance or accuracy yet. Just practice.

Next, you want to get the ball over the net. Same technique you've been practicing. Toss the ball up. On the downward drop, c**k your arm back slightly, elbow bent, palm open and make contact with the ball dead center just as it reaches your hand. Hard smack, don't bend the wrist, arm coming forward past your head. Lots of practice here.

Eventually, you want to work on your aim so that the ball will be served where you want it to go (weakest player, open spot on the court, etc). Finally, you will want a jump serve. That comes MUCH later.

    Good luck :-)
