How do you overturn someones death sentence?

How do you get someone off death row, say John Cooey or Richard Allen Davis (you know the guy that killed Polly Klaas) or any other person on death row.

While these crimes were heinous (just like ANY crime committed against children) killing them is NOT RIGHT! They are human beings just like anyone else, REGARDLESS of weather or not you are Cooey or a mass murderer like Stalin!

This is what I want to see happen, if we take an example, say John Cooey, but this should also apply to ALL inmates on death row

1. Overturn his death sentence and if I can go that far COMPLETELY ABOLISH the death penalty

2. His sentence should then be commuted to life in prison WITH the possibility of parole, after all EVERYONE deserves a second chance.

Remember, if god can forgive you, you MUST forgive other as well!!

My question:

What is the best way to go abouts doing this??

How should I start a movement or a campaign for this change to actually occur??

  1. There are any number of groups opposed to the death penalty on the web. Assuming you are 18, they will be glad to have your help.

IN reality, as long as the majority wants the death penalty, we are a democracy.

In all honesty, had they killed my child I'd not only want them dead, I'd be none to kind to people who want to let them off. I hope you never feel the pain those parents did.

  2. Why should we, as taxpayers, support these people?  You won't win, so please don't waste your money trying.  My guess is you are a serial killer yourself.

You would want these people dead if they killed your family.

By the way, prison is a cakewalk.  It's just Disneyland behind bars.  If prison was so bad, people would quit reoffending.

  3. Move to a different State? That would be the easiest way.

Besides that, there is probably already a campaign of some sort going on near you, but you just don't know it. Go and join it. As for people already on Death Row, become an Attorney and try to win as many appeals for those people as possible. There is a famous trial about two teenagers who brutally killed a kid for the fun of it and got life + 99 years, one even got realized for good behavior. A good attorney can save lives, even if the person is stuck in prison for the next 89 years.

  4. "You" don't... If the Circuit Court of Appeals, the Supreme Court doesn't rule in favor, there's only the president left. If the president doesn't commute the sentence, the person dies.

  5. "killing them is NOT RIGHT!"

Yes, it is.  What isn't right is for people totally ignorant of the facts of the case, who weren't on the jury, and simply don't like the idea of people being killed to stand in the way of killers being executed.

"They are human beings just like anyone else"

No, dear, they aren't.  They aren't human beings like me, or the cop on the street, the kid that bags your groceries, or even like little Polly Klaas. If you think they are human beings like you, keep your distance.

If you're honest, you'll admit that you wouldn't knowingly pick either of them up while they were hitchhiking, or invite either over after dark for a glass of merlot, or have them babysit your kids.

  6. When Richard Allen Davis is finally put to death, he'll never again be able to murder another innocent person. Right now, he still can, whether it be a prison guard, a fellow prisoner or a visitor to the jail. When evil is allow to walk the earth, evil can still happen. Not one person put to death has ever killed again. People sitting in jail murder all the time.

I say, let Polly forgive him. Our duty is to get him to her as fast as possible.

  7. First of all, both of the men you want to give a second chance to had been convicted of sexually assaulting kids and served time in prison, so how many chances are enough?  They upped the ante by killing their last victims after assaulting them and Cooey buried his last victim ALIVE!  By the way, the ten commandments and the mosaic law demand capital punishment for murder.  The commandment, "Thou shalt not kill." is mistranslated.  In hebrew, the original language, it is "Thou shalt not murder."  The word murder means to lie in wait and premeditate killing. Both of these slime balls can't be executed fast enough or often enough to suit me.

  8. I believe that it would be much more pain full to spend life in prison without the chance of parole than just to be put to death. Its tough this debate has been going on in this country for decades. Wisconsin as an example has no death penalty. Former Governor Ryan in Illinois commuted I believe about 165 death sentences to life without the possibility of parole. Lets face it too we do make mistakes. It is also very expensive to keep someone locked up their whole life. Now approx. 35,000 to 50,000 dollars a year per person. I think that the whole argument pretty much is based on a Religious argument given the but not only aforementioned arguments. Send them to h**l as soon as possible so that they can start serving their time with the Devil. Its silly but I believe that this is really what a lot of people believe.

  9. What about a society's right to protect itself?  Many philosophers have said that, if one murders another person, that murderer has given up his/her right to life.

I don't think you'd be so liberal if you came home one day and found your family murdered by some crazy person!

You talk a great abstract game but I wonder what would you do if reality strikes?

BTW, I do believe that almost all murderers should be sentenced to life without parole so they can think about what they did every day, knowing that they will never be free again!  That is real justice!

  10. Good question.  Depending on the state where you live, there are organizations working to end capital punishment.  To learn about them, visit www.ejusa.org.  Click on state by state, choose your state and scroll down to state and local organizations.

Unfortunately, a lot of misinformation surrounds this topic. Don't let adults patronize you on this issue.  Find out the facts on the death penalty and you will see that your instincts are correct.

For students and debaters the best place to start is at http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/article....  It has links to both sides (click on curriculum) and is easy to navigate.

  11. there are movements against capital punishment. but where there has been a trial and a conviction all one can do is appeal, argue ones case properly and pray mother luck smiles on you.
