I fill out my fafsa every year to get some student loans and then pay the rest with an electronic check from money that I have saved up for the past couple of months.

I did what the majority of students do- fill out the fafsa, get awarded federal and state pell grants, subsidized and unsubsidized loans, and personal education loans.  Now I am in grad school and I get paid to attend by doing research assistantships and teaching assistantships.

I pay for my course fees and rent using by student loan which you apply for with the million and one forms they send you...its not that bad once you've filled them in and do it earlier rather than later!!  Then for all the fun stuff I tend to work full time in the holidays as a barperson/LSA/PA in places I either worked before or offered holiday work!
