Hi, I know it's a really dumb question but I truly want to know.

I'll be moving out for the first time soon and I wonder how do I pay utility bill? Do I write a check and send it to the utility companies or pay it at some definite locations?

My parents are the ones who have been taken care of paying bills; so i have no idea.

please help

  1. The utility company will send you a bill which you can send them a check to pay.  Or, you can set up an automatic payment with your bank and the utility company will pay itself from your bank account each month.

  2. Once you call the companies and have the utilities set up in your name, they will mail you a bill every month. I usually write a check and mail my payment in the envelope they provide. Occasionally I'll pay it online if it's running late.

  3. When you call the utility companies to have things turned on (like electricity), you give them your mailing address.  Bills will come to you in the mail once a month and you can either write a check and mail it in with the bill stub; pay it at the utility company's accounting office; or pay it online if the utility company has a webpage.  Also, in many towns, there is one central location where you can pay a few different bills.  For example, in my hometown, you can pay your phone bill and your electric bill at the bank.  Your utility company will let you know what locations, if any, are available to you to pay in person.

    Hope this helps!

  4. When you get the bill, there will be a section that you tear off and return with a check or money order.  That section of the bill will have the amount you owe and your account number.  Usually you will also get a return envelope to use (you still have to buy your own stamp) If you're computer savvy, most utility companies offer online bill paying using a debit or credit card, also you can set up recurring payments so you never have to pay your bill they automatically deduct it from your account.  I wouldn't suggest this if it's your first time paying bills on your own.

  5. people usually send the bill money to me ..then I pay the utility companies for America..yeah thats the ticket
