How do you perform broomstick twists properly, and does it hit your obliques?

  1. We may be thinking about different exercises. When I think of broomstick twists, I think of a rope attached to the broomstick with a weight on the end. You twist the broomstick, wrapping the rope around the stick to lift the weight, then lower it and raise it again wrapping the rope in the opposite direction.

    This is a great way to target your forearms and hand grip strength. But I don't think that it will do a thing for your oblique abdominal muscles.

    Perhaps you are thinking of putting a broomstick across your shoulders and then bending or something?  I've seen people do it, but it doesn't look like it would be all that effective.
