  1. It's best done one-on-one with an expert career counselor.

If you have a community college near you, their student services office will probably counsel you--it's community service and recruiting for them.  If you're in college, check on your own campus.

They should be able to narrow down your options, give you information about projected demand and salary, and help you study what professions your testing indicates are potential matches--then they can advise you about what education is needed and where you can get it.

  2. what do you do in your spare time? what do you enjoy doing? What did you like doing when you were a kid? Supposedly we all did things that we loved doing then, that is what we're really supposed to do as a career. For instance, I wrote my first play when I was 8. And now I'm a screenwriter. But it took me most of my life to go after that. Whatever you like doing, find a way to turn it into a job.

  3. I always loved flowers so I became a florist. What have you always liked to do? There must be something. Think. Do you like to build things? Do you like houses then you could be an architect or a realtor or a carpenter. How about cars? You could be a car sales person or a mechanic. How about cooking? You could be a chef. There are lots of options today for young people. Try something you know you will enjoy. No use getting locked into a job you hate.
