How do you pick locks in arcanum??

I have the skill but Im still a noob and do not know how...

This Skill allows one to open locks without the use of the appropriate key.

A critical failure in the use of this Skill will jam the lock, rendering it impossible to open without the proper key or a Spell of some kind.

The Character MUST have lockpicks in his or her possession, in order to use this skill. Maybe THAT'S what you are missing.
