Has anybody recently been through A school or C school (I am talking like the past year or so) and can tell me if they pick by rank in class or do you fill out dream sheets? I would like to hear from sailors right out of boot camp and fleet returnees that went through school please.

  1. depends on the school... also depends if you have been in the Navy or going to school from boot.

usually the honor grad will have choice of orders.  if your a fleet returnee you can negotiate with your detailer prior to school and have en route orders, you will already know where your going when you get to school

if your not honor grad, or fleet returnee its almost like a lottery, pick what coast and they will TRY to get you there!  i wanted Norfolk and got Lemoore!!!!

  2. my DH graduated first in his FC A school..and chose 4th because there were 3 females in his class, who were much more restricted as to which ships they could go to.  so not even the top grad always gets first pick.

also just because you list something on your dreamsheet doesn't mean you get it.

  3. they try to go off your dream sheet - or just pick a base that needs that particular MOS..... sorry i aint right out of school but thats how it works in the army
