  1. It depends on how tall you are. Go for a fun board. They're much easier to control and ride.

  2. The best thing you can do is go to your local surf shop, the people there can help pick the board that is right for you and that is right for the waves around you. I suggest getting some lessons (surf shops usually give them) to get a feel for the sport, and when its time to get your first board the people at the shop know your skill level and therefore can be of the most assistance.

  3. Try a long board. Or a long "soft" board. They are lighter, and really long, they help you balance a lot faster, picking up waves easier. You can surf the white wash for long ride. They are very easy to learn. Thats how my 11 yr old sister learned, she stood up on the first wave.

  4. Big and heavy ones are easier for beginners

  5. For a beginner, bigger is better.   It is more stable and lets you get the hang of the fundamentals more easily.

  6. Best to get a nice longboard, also make sure its used (cause it will get banged up). Also the rails should be wide so it will float really good. Next go find a place with small, small waves and practice standing up. Once you got that down practice turning by turning your head in the direction you want to go-this will automatically make you turn. If you look down you'll go down. Rember we all had to crawl before we could run. C U out there...............Stay Wet.
