How do you pinstripe a hat?

i want to try and pinstripe a hat, how would i go about doing this?

I've never heard of this before, but if you wanted to make thin stripes then you could get masking tape and cover the hat leaving thin strips of hat bare, and then paint dots of fabric paint over. Then it would dry, you'd take off the masking tape and have thin dotted lines running all over the place. You'd have to be careful of gaps in the tape though.
