  1. I assume you already have the rod and reel, and the line you want to spool.

Remove old fishing line (if applicable).

Unspool new line about 15 feet and feed through the eyes of the rod down to the reel.

Make sure the bail is OPEN and tie the line around the reel-spool.  Tie with a slip knot.  Make sure the knot is tight to the reel-spool.

Remove the tag end (the short piece of the line coming off the knot) by cutting it a quarter inch from the knot.

Place the spool of new line on the floor.

Close the bail on the fishing reel.

Take the rod in left or right hand (whichever you use) about a foot or foot and a half above the reel and below the first eye.

Place butt of the rod (bottom end of handle) against your hip, securely.

Hold the line with your fingers so it creates tension.  This is important so it wraps on the reel consistently...you dont want it to free spool when you cast.

With the opposite hand start reeling.  Watch the show on the floor as the spool of line dances and hops around!

Reel until the line is about 1/16th of an inch off of the reel.  You dont want your line to go beyond the reel.

Once you reach your desired lenth, cut the line, add the hook, and you're ready to fish.

PS - I noticed I'm the only response...maybe its because you put your question in the wrong section.  Under sports there is a category "Outdoor Recreation" and within that are categories for hunting and fishing....so potentially you'd get more responses if you posted fishing questions under the fishing category.
