It is fairly easy to learn the names of the pieces and how each piece moves, but it takes a lot of practice to become a good player.  Here are a couple of links that should help you.  Also check to see if any of your friends know how to play and is willing to help you a little.  Set up a board in your house and play solitaire chess for practice.  These links will give you the basics.  You might also want to check at your library or a bookstore for a good beginner's book on chess.  Best of luck and have fun!

There's a king, queen, 2 bishops, 2 knights and 2 rooks(castles). The king is the piece you're trying to protect from youre opponent. It can only move 1 space. The queen can move in any direction and as many squares as you want(if there isn't anything in front) as long as it's a straight line. The bishops move diagonnally, he knights move in an "L" pattern: 2 steps forward, one step left. The rook moves in a straight line.
