How do you play chinese checkers the right way?

i want to play it but i dont know how. and i really want to instead of watching other people.

  1. you have to get your pieces to the triangle oppisite of you,you can jump over your own people and other people's pieces too,you can only jump in a straight line,you can't jump over 2 pieces,no one gets out if they get jumped. You can double jump, triple jump and so on....

I 'm familiar with two versions, but guess more exist.  (We've invented variations.)     Short-jump allows moving over one marble at a time as far as you can before only open spaces are in front of you.  Long-jump play additionally allows movement over any straight line of marbles from one line to another as long as you have marbles to move over.  You can go backwards, forward, wherever but cannot stop in a "home" triangle of another player.  You can jump thru it, just not stop there.  Play stops when you have moved all your marbles from the beginning starpoint to the opposite one across the board.  Usually play goes clockwise around the board.  One player can move up to three different groups across the middle; we've played so that one player does all their moves at one time or that they alternate from each starpoint.  Hope this and everybody else's descriptions are helpful!
