We technically have 3 defenders, 2 wing backs which will go up the sidelines on attack, two center midfielders and two forwards. My job is to play a little behind the two center midfielders. (holding midfield) Any help?

  1. A holding midfielder, better known as a defensive midfielder has the simple job of playing the role of a defender that has the opportunity to push forward farther then a back would be able to. From the sound of your formation the only "restriction" you have is that you are supposed to play behind the two midfielders other then that I would say feel free to roam around the center of the mid and back field scraping up the ball and delivering it to the offense.

  2. Whoever is coaching your team is doing a p**s poor job.

    There are already 5 defenders!!

    FIVE OF EM!!

Your 2 wing backs are defenders. There first job is to defend but they should also be capable of attacking.

Like I said, you got 5 defenders, there is no reason to play a holding mid.

Holding mids are to shield the defense but with that many bodies back they dont need it.

    With that said.

Makelele and to a lesser extent Obi Mikel are best Defensive Mids around. They Defend mostly and create plays while occasionally pushing up.

BUT FOREMOST, THEY DEFEND and do it well.

  3. your job is to get the ball and distribute the ball and defend mostly. If one of those wing backs launches himself to the attack your job is to cover for him. Holding midfielders usually tend to be very physical since they have to win balls in teh midfield. Holding midfielders have to run a lot too. They are always the unsung heroes
